Grethel Van Epps Contest

Over a year ago, one of my close friends had a beautiful baby girl. When it came time for her to have the first set of pictures made for little JB, she knew she wanted a quality children's photographer in charge. She chose Grethel Van Epps, a woman I had never heard of. However, everyone who knows M, knows she has impeccable taste, so I was sure the woman must be very talented. The result of this choice was a collection of pictures that literally took my breath away; every single image was stunning! I don't know how she ever picked which ones to purchase, but I know it was very hard.
As it turns out, this wonderful and talented photographer wasn't stingy with her gift. M had heard she was beginning photography classes to help families capture higher quality pictures with their own cameras. M quickly talked me into taking the class with her and it turned out to be quite an experience. M flourished under Grethel's mentoring and even I, the photography challenged, picked up many little tricks to help make our pictures better.
Around Mother's Day, Grethel ran a special to attract new clients and thank her loyal ones. By that point, my husband had heard me rave about Grethel's work for well over a year and he finally broke down and purchased the special as my combination Mother's Day and Birthday gift. I must say, it is the best gift so far from him, other than the gift his love:) Our proofs are so beautiful and I feel she really captured us as we are, even in the nasty heat we encountered during our photo shoot.
Grethel is by far one of the most talented photographers I have ever met. Her eye for detail, color, and natural light are rivaled by few. Of course, it doesn't hurt that she is super sonic fast with editing:) However, it's her heart that really makes her business a cut above the rest. She is such a genuinely nice and thoughtful person. When my friend's little girl began to have health issues, she was so quick to reach out to her and offer her prayers and love (JB is now doing great!). Recently, during our photo shoot, she asked me questions about things we had talked about over a year ago in her photo class. She truly has a heart of gold and I feel honored that she is not only our family photographer, but also our friend. We love you, G!

So quick, make a note about her too and follow the directions on her blog for a chance to win as well. Above are the links to her blog and website. Please consider her if you don't already have a family photographer :)

Congratulations Vanda and Jean!!!

Chris's cousin, Vanda, got married about two weeks ago to a wonderful man named Jean. They had a very intimate wedding in Jasper and last weekend, they had a wedding reception at their home for all of their friends and family. Here are a few pics from the awesome night! Thanks to Tim Warren for making the wedding cake and to all of Vanda's family for helping out with preparing the food. Also, my very talented sister in law did the flowers and I must say they were perfect!

Logan + Real Food= Mess

Logan had his second encounter with "real food" last night. We tried the rice cereal for the first time about two weeks ago with very little success. Last night, we decided to mix a little banana baby food with the rice and breast milk. This time, Logan lapped it up like a little puppy. Thanks for the tip, Grandma!

Photography Class Pics

Yesterday, Meredith and I had our first photgraphy class with
Grethel. Amanda also joined us and we learned lots of photograhpy terms and a little about how to apply those to use with our cameras. Needless to say, Meredith and I both were a "little" confused once we had to actually start taking pictures. Here are a few that I took, which aren't very good. Our homework before next week's class is to "play" with our cameras using the new terms discussed. Boy, do I have a lot of work to do!

Memorial Day Weekend at Megan's

Memorial Day Weekend, we were invited to Megan's house for a cookout. Meredith brought Jack to play with Megan's son, Drew. Little did they know that we like to play just as much as they do. Meredith even stole the machine nerf gun away and nailed Jack with the bulltes. We also ate lots of great food and had a great time.
