On Sunday, Chris and I decided that it was time to move Logan from his bassinet in our room into his crib in the nursery. We had many people question the long wait, but we had our reasons. The main reason is our pediatrician suggested that we wait until Logan reached the four month marker, because his concrete/operational stage does not develop until then. If you aren't in health care or education, this probably sounds like gibberish, but basically it just means that your child thinks you are gone for good when he/she can't see/hear you. We really want Logan to be secure with us and trust us and it just made sense to wait.
So, Sunday night we went through the normal routine: breast, bath, lotion massage, breast, burp, bed. But this time, the last portion was done in his nursery and we laid him down in his crib. It was pretty rough that night; he woke up every two hours wanting to eat, but we made it through and did not bring him back in our room. Last night went better; he slept 3.5 hours, woke to eat, and then slept another 3 hours. We are hoping and praying that Logan starts sleeping for at least five hours each stretch very soon, but we will endure whatever to make sure he is healthy and happy. A really nice thing that has helped us tremendously is having a video monitor that Barbara (my mother in-law) bought us. We can actually see the little man breathing, as well as being able to hear every sound he makes, thus we aren't having near as much separation anxiety as we expected. Pray for us as we make this transition; we are lacking sleep, but we have heard it will be worth it.

Dr. Bill knows his stuff he is awesome...Soon he will be sleeping all night and you will totally forget about all the missed sleep. It amazes me how fast time goes. It's great that Barbara got you goes a monitor with a screen that really is wonderful. I will be praying for you guys.
ReplyDeleteWe had thought about getting a monitor with a screen but never did. I bet that is nice!! It will take time, but he will start sleeping longer and longer each night. Blake now goes to bed around 8:30pm or 9:00pm and wakes up around 6:00pm. We try to feed him a large amount before he goes to bed and that helps. Also, I am still trying to figure out how to work my blog. I saw where you had left a comment. If I responded back, will it notify you? Just wondering!
ReplyDeleteThat should say "and wakes up around 6:00am." Sorry about that!!
